How FreeBeg works

FreeBeg is a free place to ask for a little help, and to help someone directly. We never touch the money: every gift goes straight from the giver's payment app to the person asking.

If you need help

  1. Create a free account and confirm your email.
  2. Add a way to receive money — Cash App, Venmo, PayPal or another service (see below).
  3. Post your request. Say what it's for, how much, and when you need it. Small, specific asks get helped fastest.
  4. Share your link with family, friends, coworkers and your church or community groups. Most help comes from people who already know you.
  5. Confirm help when it arrives. When someone says they sent you money, check your app and tap “Got it.” Your progress bar only counts confirmed help.
  6. Post a thank-you. Everyone who helped gets it. You'll need to post one before you can ask again — it's what keeps people giving.

New accounts' first requests are checked by a moderator before they go live, usually within a day. This keeps scammers out, which makes people more willing to give to everyone.

Tips for a request that gets helped

If you want to help

  1. Pick a request — or tap Help a random request.
  2. Tap one of the person's payment buttons and send what you're comfortable with. $5 makes a real difference.
  3. Come back and tap “I sent $X, let them know.” You don't need an account. Leave your email if you'd like their thank-you.
  4. Share the request. A share from you can bring in the rest.

Payment methods FreeBeg supports

You'll need at least one of these to post a request. They're all free to sign up for. Each service sets its own fees and rules, so read their terms — FreeBeg isn't connected to any of them.

Cash App

Download the Cash App, sign up with your phone number or email, and pick a $Cashtag (like $MariaR). That's what you'll add to FreeBeg.

Venmo

Download Venmo and sign up. Your @username is in your profile. Venmo is for US accounts.

PayPal

Create a free PayPal account, then set up your PayPal.me link — a short web address like paypal.me/mariar that anyone can pay.

Ko-fi

A free donation page that pays out through PayPal or Stripe. Handy if you'd rather not share an app username.

Other

Any other payment page with a secure https:// link.

Never post your bank account number, card number, or Social Security number anywhere on FreeBeg — nobody needs them to send you money. More safety tips
